Five days, one theme a day, and nowhere else to be.
Every hike, drive, and shared meal is intentional — built around a daily rhythm of quiet, prayer, and reflection, set against the beauty of Mount Desert Island.
The Alcyon Center
We'll stay at The Alcyon Center, a beautiful and secluded spiritual retreat center right on the water in Seal Cove, Maine, on the western side of Mount Desert Island. Participants will stay in the main cabin at the retreat center, possibly sharing a room with another participant.
Arrival
Participants arrive in Bangor, Maine, by Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 2027. From there, the group drives to Mount Desert Island together once everyone has arrived.
Mornings by the water. Days in the park. Evenings in town.
Morning — Gazebo by the water
Each day begins at the gazebo by the water with an extended time of quiet, prayer, and reflection as we introduce the day's theme.
Day — Acadia National Park
From the gazebo, we head into Acadia National Park for hikes, scenic drives, and other activities — with guided prompts and spiritual practices woven throughout.
Evening — Dinner in Bar Harbor
We gather in Bar Harbor for dinner, conversation, and time together before returning for the night.
The Eremos Field Journal
Each participant receives an Eremos Field Journal designed to lead them through the week. Every day centers on a different theme, with Scripture readings, prayers, reflection and journaling prompts, and other spiritual practices woven intentionally throughout the hikes, drives, and time in the park.
Getting Ready
A recommended packing and supply list will be provided in advance. Some days may include multiple peaks and significant elevation gain, so we recommend preparing in the months leading up to the retreat with regular walks, local hikes, and other endurance-building activity. See the FAQ for more on physical readiness, weather, and the cell phone / electronics approach.
